"I rent an apartment.

 I don't need insurance- do I?"

Yes- you need Renters Insurance. If there is a fire or other catastrophe, who will replace your:

  • clothing

  • furniture

  • stereo

  • TV

  • computer

  • jewelry

  • dishes

Your landlord only insures the building you live in- not YOUR personal

belongings!

Personal Property

Your Renters Insurance policy can help replace your personal belongings in the event of a covered loss. Common losses are due to not only fire and theft, but also accidental and sudden discharge of a sprinkler system. Water damage can be as destructive as fire- don't get caught without the right insurance!

Loss of use

Your Renters Insurance policy can pay the additional costs of living in hotels, eating in restaurants, etc., while you are out of your home due to a covered loss.

Personal Liability coverage

This coverage gives you liability protection against claims caused by almost any unintentional act, and will help pay legal expenses to defend such a claim.

Personal Articles floater

This extends coverage for your valuable articles, such as jewelry, furs or collectibles, when their value is higher than the limits stated in your policy.

Contents Replacement Cost

This option extends the coverage on your personal property to include the ACTUAL cost of repair or replacement without deduction for the depreciation. There are, of course, policy limits, so ask us for details.

News and Information

WHY RENTERS NEED INSURANCE. Jay Romano. New York Times. 2007/10/07. Section 11, page 11. The Insurance Information Institute reports that renters are 50 percent more likely to be victims of burglars than homeowners are. But, according to Jeanne Salvatore, a spokeswoman for the institute, only 43 percent of renters carry renters insurance (compared with 96 percent of homeowners who have homeowners insurance). Salvatore deplores the figures because basic renters insurance not only provides coverage for theft, it also provides coverage for personal property and liability coverage for personal injury to others. Experts say that many renters do not buy their own insurance because they believe their property is covered by their building's insurance policy, which is not true. The article explains the different types of renters insurance policies, what they cover, how much they can cost, extra coverage that can be added and other benefits to carrying the coverage, such as getting discounts on auto insurance if policies are purchased from the same company.
